Whiteout Movie Trailer

The official movie trailer of Whiteout, the upcoming thriller movie set in Antarctica and which is directed by Dominic Sena, has shown up online, we may watch it thanks to Trailer Spy:

WHITEOUT

The most isolated landmass on the planet,
No official government,
No permanent population...

Temperature: 120 Below zero
Wind speed: 200 miles per hour

No horizon! No Shadows!

There is only White...

They're trying to stick to the original comic book it seems. At least they try to promote it like this. From this trailer of Whiteout we really feel like that this movie, beyond being a thriller, describes a tense battle against time in a desolate, dangerous wasteland with nowhere to hide...

The movie Whiteout will hit theaters in early September 2009.

Whiteout Movie directed by Dominic Sena

Dominic Sena has been tackling the movie adaptation of Whiteout, the 1999 comic book by writer Greg Rucka and artist Steve Lieber. The film is is starring Kate Beckinsale and Gabriel Macht and Columbus Short. It should be released on September 11, 2009.

Here below we have a first look at Kate Beckinsale movie Whiteout:

Plot:
"A U.S. marshal (Kate Beckinsale), the only one assigned to Antarctica, must investigate a murder on the frozen continent within three days before the arctic winter begins. She crosses paths with a U.N. operative (Gabriel Macht), also investigating the murder." (Source: Wikipedia)

Cast:
- Kate Beckinsale as Carrie Stetko, a U.S. marshal
- Gabriel Macht as Robert Pryce, a U.N. operative
- Alex O'Loughlin as a brazen pilot who gets in trouble with the marshal
- Columbus Short as a novice pilot who helps the marshal in the investigation

Thee plot is maybe set in Antartica is something new, but it just looks like a common thriller movie. So I didn't have that much interest in this movie. That is until I checked a discussion about Whiteout on IMDb and read this inspired comment:

"There's a small crew and it's a few days before winter comes and the majority of the staff packs up and heads home until it's safe to come back.
It's a tense battle against time in a desolate, dangerous wasteland with nowhere to hide, and a small group of captive suspects that are in the process of leaving.
She's the only one there because, well, it's not normally a hot-spot for trouble and when something does occur there's no time to bring anyone else in and a lot of people have left already."

Thanks to his comment the film seems much more appealing: I think the production should contact this Whiteout fan and hire him in their marketing team!

By the way this Whiteut movie must be somewhat faithful to the original comic book because its author, Greg Rucka, applauded the film adaptation: not that often that a movie succesfully captures the spirit of the source material.
